A quick 24 hour trip to Paris. Part work, part research, and a useful opportunity to put some of our clothes through their paces.
The main reason for the visit was SS27, working on new products and ideas for the season ahead. There is something about being away from the usual surroundings that helps when developing a collection. Paris is particularly good for it. The shops, people, architecture and small details you notice walking between meetings inevitably find their way into the work.
The weather also gave us more than expected. Rain one minute, blazing sunshine the next. Not necessarily ideal for getting around the city, but perfect for road testing clothes.
We took a mixture of Made to Order tailoring and pieces from our Ready to Wear collection, wearing them as they are intended to be worn rather than keeping them pristine. Jackets got caught in the rain, tailoring was worn through the heat and everything picked up a little of the day along the way.
It was a good reminder that clothes often become better once you stop being too careful with them. Tailoring in particular should be lived in. A few creases, a softened jacket and the marks of a day spent moving around a city give clothes character that cannot really be manufactured.
There was also time for a proper Parisian lunch at La Petite Chaise, a fantastic classic French restaurant and one of the oldest in Paris. Traditional food, old interiors and exactly the sort of place that feels reassuringly unchanged.

Then it was back to work, a little more walking, and eventually the train home.
Twenty four hours is not quite enough time in Paris, but it was enough to come back with plenty of ideas for SS27, a few well worn garments and a reminder of why getting out and actually wearing the clothes is such an important part of making them.
