A Visit to Abraham Moon & Sons

A Visit to Abraham Moon & Sons

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting Abraham Moon & Sons, one of Britain's most established woollen mills, at their home in Guiseley, West Yorkshire.

We've long been admirers of Abraham Moon cloth, having worked extensively with their fabrics across our Made to Measure tailoring commissions. Over the past year in particular, their cloths have played an important role, not only in the garments we've created for clients, but also in the development and refinement of the Shaw's house cut.

It was therefore a real privilege to visit the mill for ourselves and see the people, processes and craftsmanship behind fabrics we've become so familiar with.

Behind the Scenes at Abraham Moon

Founded in 1837, Abraham Moon & Sons has a rich history in British textile manufacturing, producing woollen cloth for tailoring, outerwear and clothing brands around the world.Β We were incredibly fortunate to be welcomed by the team and given the opportunity to look behind the scenes at the mill.Β Seeing the various stages of cloth production first-hand gave us an even greater appreciation for the work that goes into creating these fabrics, from the raw materials through to the finished cloth.Β It's one thing to work with a fabric regularly, but quite another to understand the processes and people behind its production.

Developing the Shaw's House Cut

Abraham Moon fabrics have become a familiar part of our Made to Measure offering, particularly as we've continued to develop our own approach to tailoring.Β The Shaw's house cut takes inspiration from traditional tailoring, with an emphasis on softer construction, relaxed proportions and a natural drape.Β Throughout the development process, we've worked with a variety of British cloths, including those from Abraham Moon, exploring how different weights, textures and finishes complement the shape and character of our garments.

Their fabrics have been particularly enjoyable to work with, offering the character and versatility that we look for in our tailoring.

Looking Ahead

One of the most exciting parts of the visit was the opportunity to discuss future projects with the Abraham Moon team.Β We're pleased to be working together on a selection of staff garments and samples for next year, continuing to explore how their cloths can be incorporated into our approach to modern menswear.

A huge thank you to everyone at Abraham Moon for making us feel so welcome and taking the time to show us around.Β It's always a pleasure to work with people who share our appreciation for good cloth, thoughtful design and quality manufacturing.
